Similar Addons out there

I wanted to create an extension that does Screen Capture, Annotations plus some way of organizing them. The 1st 2 features are actually readily available out there. But they deal with images only and not the organization part. They also don’t allow other users to comment etc. I wonder if I should continue with this idea for this module … Below are the similar addons. Link to previous post (the idea)

FireShot

This is what I used before I switched to Ubuntu. Its available only on Windows

  • Screen Capture
  • Annotations/Editor
  • Upload to web services
  • Copy to clipboard

Diggo Toolbar

Great, but for webpages not images, so like highlighting text etc. Even with social capabilities. Alittle cluttered and slow when I used it sometime back. Perhaps I can solve these issues by a local version that optionally syncs to remote server

Awesome Screenshot

Very nice simple app that works for me too. Its probably just lacking in the social networking part.

Does this mean a dead end for my project idea? Hmm, maybe I need to look for another idea? Or since I am Year 1 still, should I drop this module for now and take it another semester? One concern bothering me these few days is load. Considering I’m new to University, though with Poly/Programming background, should I see what results I get for Sem 1 before taking this module? Currently I have 5 modules (after successful appeal)

  • CS1020: Data Structures & Algorithm 1
  • IS1105: Strategic IT Applications
  • IS2102: Requirements Analysis & Design
  • CS2100: Computer Organization
  • MA1301: Introductory Mathematics

CP3108B - Mozilla (Independent Work)

Sometime back, I recieved an email regarding a module offered “CP3108B - Mozilla (Independent Work)”. I instantly felt like thats the module for me. Many “normal” modules felt too accademic (lacks practicality) to me. Here I will learn more practical skills like working on an Open Source project (Mozilla Firefox for me), developing extensions to entend its functionality. I will also be documenting my progress here (tagged mozilla), and be on IRC to help other developers in need. Not such a great IRC fan yet though, but will see how it will turn out. It feels like obselete technology by now.

I decided to work on a Screen Capture/Inspiration Gallery/Annotations type extension for Web Developers/Designers (but I imagine others can find it useful too). I am currently working on my Project Proposal also weighting the pros & cons of using JetPack vs XUL. I prefer to use the latest technology (JetPack), but I read XUL is more powerful … also the tutors use XUL I believe and I think if I choose JetPack it maybe harder to get help.

Anyone has any thoughts leave a comment here. Hopefully I can post the draft proposal by tommorow, for your comments :)

AsiaExpat Web Design/Development (WordPress)

After KLIF Media’s design, AsiaExpat requested a similar site rejecting a few that looks alike. This was the result. I’d say its like KLIF Media v1.5

Software: NetBeans, Photoshop
Languages/Frameworks: WordPress, PHP, MySQL, jQuery, jQuery UI, HTML5, CSS3

Investment uses Custom Post Types/Taxonomy but instead of WordPress default UI for taxonomies, I used a Meta Box to group all custom portfolio meta and taxonomies together. This way, I can use jQuery UI’s multi-value auto complete too.

Design wise, I was quite pleased with my Post Card like contact forms. The social media icons where done my me too. The services page looks great, but the 3D are work are not mine, they are gotten from GraphicRiver.
